Below are two mesh plots of bottom profiles recorded with the 64 element MTA described on the previous page. It should be noted that these are two dimensional profiles plotted over time. It can be seen that both large and small scale bedforms, as well as the bottom slope, can be recorded in the field with such an instrument.

In the plot below, the top plot is the whole 64 element array, which spans 250 cm. The lower plot is from the center section of the top plot. These data points were recorded with the center 5 MHz MTA. This array has 1.5 cm transducer spacing and is 50 cm in length.

The data shown below was measured in Duck, NC. The (Hmo) wave height was 0.63m, the peak wave period was 9.6 sec, the depth was 3.9 m, and the
median sediment size was 0.19 mm.

Two length scales can be seen in the bedforms shown above. In the large array bedforms with heights of 3 cm, and lengths of 60 cm can be seen. In the lower plot, smaller scale bedforms with heights of 1 cm and lengths of 13 cm can also be seen. Local bottom slope is also measured with such an instrument.
