The 32 element MTA described below was developed to measure bedforms in the ocean environment.

This ultrasonic ranging system is composed of 32, 2 MHz, transducers.  There are 4 arrays that contain 8 transducers each.  The center two arrays have 5 cm transducer spacing and the arrays at the ends have transducers that are aimed in 6 degree increments.  This configuration allows for imaging a wider section of seafloor than the length of the combined array.

This ultrasonic ranging system is a stand-alone system. It is composed of a transducer array and the attached pressure housing which houses the data-logger and all required electronics. This system is capable of recording seabed  profiles at a rate of 2.8 Hz and is setup to stream the range data back to a logging computer for recording.

The array housing and the pressure housing are constructed of hard anodized 6061 aluminum.  The array connectors are underwater matable.
